The Bottle Mill

Houldsworth Mill, previously home to 130,000 spindles, followed by a mail order catalogue company, is now home to an exciting new bottle shop & tap — The Bottle Mill.

Nestled amongst the Houldsworth mill shopping centre, is this hidden gem opened by Sam Doolan, Chris Ballinger and Chris Woodsworth. They first started work on the shop in the Summer of 2021, fitting it around their normal jobs. And what a transformation! The bar was fitted out using reclaimed pallet wood and it’s got some beautiful industrial touches (check out the stout tap).

Initially intended to be a bottle shop to fit amongst the other shops at the mill, it organically changed into a bar, creating a vibrant atmosphere in the evenings that attracts the afterwork crowd from local offices and is a great spot for people in Reddish to meet up. There’s also a quiz night every two weeks which always pulls in a crowd.

Pint (Marble) and Lukas (Thornbridge) are always part of the line up alongside three rotating pale/IPA taps where there are regular appearances from Reddish breweries Ventile, Assembly and Thirst Class Ale. They also have a rotating Stout tap — I had a sample of the Nitro stout by Cwrw Ial on my visit. Well it was St Patrick’s day, it would be rude not to!

The fridge is overflowing with cans from Track, Squawk, Runaway, Blackjack and Red Willow. They also have a great selection of gins, cocktails, gluten free beer, low alcohol options and cider, so everybody is well and truly catered for.

The owners are keen to put on events in the future and are looking into incorporating an occasional cask offering into their already great line up. There’s also talk of a new food outlet opening up in the mill which will make Houldsworth mill a great spot to grab some food, taste some great beer, meet some mates and spin a few yarns over an evening,
